I define myself as a versatile researcher. Practical and theoretical, bench and dry, lab and field, profession and hobby, these are the stages I have found my way of doing research.

I was born in a scientist family, and was inspired to pursue a career in science since childhood. In my middle school years I became a big fan of coding small software products. This experience led toward my future research interest in methodology, in additional to original researches.

My undergraduate study was completed in Fudan University in Shanghai, where I first tasted the flavor of actual scientific research, and began to apply my interest in computer works on research projects. Since then I have gained experience in multiple projects, spanning from cancer antigen to gene transcriptional regulation, from dissection station to computer grid, from human to insects.

I got my PhD degree at SUNY-Buffalo in mid 2014. My thesis advisor was Dr. Katharina Dittmar. My study involved three distinct projects: an old-school style systematics study of an insect group, a case study of a particular gene family that has ecological and pathological implications, and a pure methodology study that ultimately led to a software product.

In late 2014 I joined JCVI in San Diego to work with Dr. Sarah Highlander in the Genomic Medicine group. My research project is to develop computational tools for metagenomic data analysis, aiming at pathogen discovery in human gastrointestinal diseases.

Currently I am a postdoc in UC San Diego (more details to be disclosed...)
